THE SUN

Certainly, the sun may warm the cockles of our hearts,

But too much of its rays for too long, burns and smarts

Causing the skin to deteriorate, to redden,

To dry, to itch, to peel, and even to deaden.

Be that as it may, we love to sun in the sun

And we will even bake in it, until well done.

So, we regret at day's end, the sun's departure below the far horizon,

When darkness slowly descends, and the glow of daylight is gone.

It's then for the moon and stars to collaborate and emit their mellow lights

And assist us in coping with the darkness of those long and quiet nights,

Until the dawn of another glorious and sun-filled day arrives

To warm and to refresh anew, the essence of our daily lives.

The cycles of our globe's rotations sadly are such

That if you reside in Canada, you won't get much

Sun to warm the cockles of your heart

Or for that matter any other bodily part.

But my fellow compatriots and my dear friends

Fret not, for when winter begins, and fall ends,

We can leave behind the cold wind, the snow, the ice, and hail,

And enjoy the sun in Miami, Coconut Creek, and Ft Lauderdale.
