THE SECOND SUNDAY IN MAY

Today the fond memories of my mother are more than just a little clear,

Whispered words of her endearment and love are trumpeting in my ear.

Not as the music of a horn playing taps but of a clarinet outing a Rhapsody in Blues,

Harmonizing her words of advice as the distinct notes of my own rhapsody of values,

Embracing the ideals of honesty, truth, decency, love, marriage, friendship, and family,

Which with the power of memory reinforces the unique importance of my mother to me.

Even so I am sure that everyone celebrating this day of honouring Motherhood

Does so because to them the motherhood they are celebrating is uniquely good.

So I send this short poem to you as a person blessed by motherhood to say,

You are the salt of the earth and every day is worthy of being a Mother’s day.
