THE MOON, SUN, AND SON

My Yiddishe Mama and Papa are now both sadly gone

But still their laughter and Yiddishkeit* in me lives on.

My Yiddishe Mama caused the sun daily to rise and to set.

She was to me its warmth and light that I will never forget.

My Yiddishe Papa was to me the full moon in the night sky

Well-rounded, constant, inspirational and a funny great guy.

My Yiddishe Mama and Papa embraced me with traditional Jewish hearts

And passed on to me a love of our culture, of our history and of our arts.

And my memories of them shine brightly in my searching eyes

When I look at the sun and the moon alit in the beautiful skies.
