NEITHER JUSTICE NOR LAW
To many lawyers it is one thing to freely act and opine
And totally a different thing to opine and act for free.
The former is considered a professional propensity
And the latter is mostly rejected as un-billable time.
In the courts where serious issues are tried,
It is the law and not justice that is applied.
And if in a court battle, justice overcomes injustice in such fight,
It is more coincidence than a cause and effect vindication of right.
In addition, exorbitant lawyers' and other related Court fees
Coupled with lengthy delays in resolving laws' complexities,
Shamefully render our legal system in a dysfunctional mess,
Effectively depriving our citizens of meaningful Court access.
Adversaries dispossessed of trial in the Courts
Will engage in trial-by-battle on our city streets,
And if Democracy is what our society supports
It must rectify its flaws or suffer unjust defeats.
