INDOORS IN A PANDEMIC

In this pandemic, my condo window frames the beauty of my tree.

Through that window I see branched growth, dressed in greenery,

Reaching outward and upward to the sun in a cloudless sky

Swaying easily in the gentle wind sighing its melancholy sigh.

Around it, the living colours of Spring with their many hues of grace

Attract grey squirrels and red robins looking to secure a living place.

And, as if magically trained, the tree leaves dance and have much fun

Creating swinging and swaying gyrations invariably pleasing everyone.

But then in no time, my beautiful tree’s appendages are denuded by the freezing weather,

Its grey squirrels are few, its red robins AWOL dulling the glitter of Nature’s treasure.

My window frosts over and the earth is covered by a blanket of white snow under which to hide,

And my vista to nature’s bounties is blocked as I try to see beyond my cocoon to its other side.
